this time it’s me on the other side of the table,
begging to be kicked out of orbit

take some advice from the mirror,
sad ghost

hallowe’en isn’t suggesting
you dress up as oblivious

it’s not fun to imagine
all the people you’ve been
naked with

it’s not fun when
you lie about it

maybe i’ll try dressing up
as a backbone,
hold others accountable
for their promises,
make them
bury the broken ones with me

maybe i won’t stifle tears –
someone did this to me –
let them watch it materialize
into salt water and grimace

and when he blames me for
the guilt he feels about
his own faulty actions,
i’ll remind him who’s
holding the knife
