poem expanding on cellphone note 1

i just got back from a three week trip to costa rica, so will be copying my poetry journal onto here over the next few days.  in the meantime, i’m working some poems expanding on notes in my cell phone (old and new) to end a long first day back at work. here is the first:

this is your jaw
hanging open to rest
on the kitchen floor,
praying for rain
or peace
or a small thing

this is your bed
gone to the dogs
heavier still
with the thought
that you’ve hurt someone

this is the party
you missed
when you were sure
everyone you knew
hoped to kill you

this is the world
painted conqueror’s colours
as if gradients don’t exist,
like we all understand
death so well

this is an escape plan

this is a lie
that flowered with age
